This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Group Exercise Instructors and Personal Trainers at the Hobart Family YMCA maintain a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals, promotes the potential of all and provides a quality experience to both youth and their families.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Instructs group classes in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
  • Answers questions from members to support them in achieving their goals related to healthy living. Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
  • Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.
  • Keeps accurate class attendance records.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Required certifications: CPR, First Aid, and AED within 90 days.
  • Must have educational background in physical education, exercise science, health education or related field, or have passed YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise Instructor.
  • Must be certified through ACE, ACSM, or other approved nationally accredited organization or YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise Instructor within 1 year of hire.
  • Certification in areas of expertise.
  • YMCA Child Abuse training within 90 days of hire.
  • YMCA Healthy Lifestyles certification within 1 year of hire.
  • At least one year of experience teaching group wellness classes preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to conduct classes and activities.
  • Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position; including leading class, walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting.

Job Type: Part-time

Salary: $9.00 to $12.00 /hour
